A Cross-- Sectional study of Drug Prescription Pattern in Urticaria patients attending Dermatology & Venereology Department in a Rural Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital
Authors: Shanta Das Sutradhar, Sushil Kumar Varma
Abstract
Urticaria is a very common skin condition characterized by recurrent, pruritic (itchy), pink-to-red edematous (swollen) lesions that often have pale centers (wheals). Histamine is the main mediator of urticaria and H1 antihistamines represent the initial and mainstay treatment of urticaria. The newer second generation H1 antihistamines are preferred over the older first generation H1 antihistamines as the initial choice of therapy due to its less sedating and less cholinergic side effects. Although numerous treatments are available for urticaria, there is little information about the prescription pattern for the treatment of urticaria. Hence this study was conducted.
Use of Proton Pump Inhibitors –A drug utilization study

Abstract
In 2006 PPI was the third most frequently prescribed drug in Australia. In United States, UK and New Zealand similar trends were observed. Utilization of proton pump inhibitors is increasing continuously. Differential drug utilization of PPIs are observed along with NSAIDs with antibiotics, Utilization of PPI alone is less, and some newer adverse drugs reactions are being reported, so we planned a study to find out the actual burden of PPI in our area.

Abstract
Derivative spectrophotometry offers a useful approach for the analysis of drugs in multi-component formulation. In this study a first order derivative spectrophotometric method is applied for the simultaneous determination of Paracetamol and Domperidone in Tablet dosage form. The measurements were carried out at wavelengths of 262 and 297 nm for Paracetamol and Domperidone respectively. The method was found to be linear (r²=0.999) in the range of 5-25 μg/ml for Paracetamol in the presence of 20μg/ml of Domperidone at 262 nm. The linear correlation (r²=0.999) was obtained in the range of 5-25μg/ml for Domperidone in the presence of 20μg/ml of Paracetamol at 297 nm. The method was successfully used for simultaneous determination of Paracetamol and Domperidone in tablet dosage form without any interference from excipients and prior separation.

Abstract
Two simple, precise, economical, fast and reliable UV methods have been developed for the simultaneous estimation of Ranitidine and Domperidone in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage form. Method A is Absorbance maxima method, which is based on measurement of absorption at maximum wavelength of 314 nm and 286 nm for Ranitidine and Domperidone respectively. Method B is area under curve (AUC), in the wavelength range of 269-340 nm for Ranitidine and262-307nm for Domperidone. Linearity for detector response was observed in the concentration range of 5-25μg/ml for Ranitidine and 5-25 μg/ml for Domperidone. The accuracy of the methods was assessed by recovery studies and was found to be 99.18 % and 100.21 % for Ranitidine and 100.19 % and 101.57 % Domperidone by using method A and B respectively. The developed method was validated with respect to linearity, accuracy (recovery), precision and specificity. The results were validated statistically as per ICH Q2 R1guideline and were found to be satisfactory. The proposed methods were successfully applied for the determination of for Ranitidine and Domperidone in commercial pharmaceutical dosage form.
