Application of Static Synchronous Series Compensator(SSSC) for Stability Enhancement of a Multimachine Power System
Authors: Neethu Muraleedharan, Smitha S D
Abstract
Power systems are always associated with a large number of disturbances which affect the system stability and distorts the current and voltage profiles. The active power transfer in the system is heavily affected by faults which occur in the transmission systems. Maintaining the voltage profile during the fault and attaining stability of the system after a major disturbance is a challenge faced by power system engineers of all times. FACTS devices play a prominent role in modern power systems as these are the best options for increasing transmission capacity of lines while maintaining system stability. In this work, a series FACTS device, static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is used to improve voltage profile of a system during a major three phase fault. A suitable controller is designed for the system and the operation of the device is tested in a two machine system. Also an algorithm based on PSO is applied to the SSSC power oscillation damping controller for fast damping of the oscillations. The MATLAB/SIMULINKmodeling of the system is done and the simulation results are obtained.
Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Land Use/Land Covers Mapping in Allahabad District
Author: Richa Chaturvedi
Abstract
The paper attempts to assess various categories of Land use/land covers in Allahabad district using remote sensing and GIS techniques. The result of the study shows that a wide range of spatial variations in geomorphic features has been caused by differential erosion and sedimentation works of various geomorphic processes, which were operating in the past. For example, flood plain features are dominated in the major northern portion of the district that is formed during the Quaternary period whereas the southern portion is governed by features of Vindhyan plateau that are supposed to be developed from Pre–Cambrian to Recent period. The spatial variations in geomorphic features have put forward their impact on socio- cultural features and trend of their development. Attempts have also been made in present investigation to analyses and map-out the Land use/ land covers based on the geomorphic analysis and field observations. The cultivated land is largely confined in the flood plain area and rocky wasteland is found in pediment zone. Forest is marked near the denudation hill.

Authors: P. Thirumurugan, S. Arunrajan, S. Nagaarjun, R. Sivamanikandan, K. Prakash
Abstract
This project is based on LabVIEW software using NI-myRIO and it is meant for low cost, small size and light weight unmanned ground vehicle .It is specialized in wheel structure and camera courage .the typical wheel design is used to cross the obstacles present in the path of vehicle and the camera is rotated with respect to the wheel direction .the camera provides image of the place. The gas sensor is mounted in the vehicle which is used to detect the gas in particular place. The arm is connected with the vehicle which is used to collect the sample in the particular place. It is used in military operations, surveillance and also photography .It is a modified vehicle so we can connect any instruments with NI-myRIO based upon the application.
Experimental Study of Melting and Solidification of Paraffin Wax with Dispersion of Al2O3 in Rectangular Enclosure
Authors: R. R. Jadhav, S. Y. Bhosale, A. V. Waghmare, H. N. Deshpande
Abstract
In this experimental based research work, the performance of Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS) during charging (melting) and discharging (solidification) processes were studied under varying conditions. The results from the CFD simulations for these conditions were published earlier. Here, the experimental results had been discussed. Paraffin wax concentration was varied to form the TESS. Al2O3 was included as nano-material with a varying concentration – 0% (Base Model), 1% (Variant-1), 2% (Variant-2) and 3% (Variant-3). It was observed that the Variant-1 had provided better performance for Configuration A under the heat load of 125 W and 175 W in the melting process. During the solidification process for the Configuration B, Base Model had better performance than the variants with nano-fluids. Results from CFD simulations as well as experimental procedure were in good agreement for this research work.
Monitoring of SPM, SO2, NO2, and AIR Quality Index in Selected Areas of Davangere City During Summer Season
Authors: Punith Y N, D. P. Nagarajappa
Abstract
The main aim of this project is to check the ambient air quality in Davangere city and to determine AQI in the Resedencial, Commercial, Industrial and Sensitive areas of the 13 selected locations of the Davangere city during summer season. It has been observed that concentration of suspended particulate matter is more in these stations like PB road Aruna theatre, Old bus stand, Gandhi circle, Pooja international hotel, UBDT college and Bapuji Hospital were exceeds the standard limit of National Ambient Air Quality standards(NAAQS). The concentration of Sulphur dioxide and Nitrogen dioxide is within the NAAQS limit in all the stations. But Air Quality Index (AQI) values of the PB road old bus stand, Gandhi circle, Pooja international hotel, and Bapuji hospital stations were severely polluted and it is very unhealthy for the public and causes some various health problems.
