Preparation of Meloxicam Spherical Agglomerates to Improve Dissolution Rate
Authors: S. Sujani, R. Hari Babu, K. Ravindra Reddy
Abstract
Spherical agglomerates of Meloxicam were prepared by simple agglomeration technique using a three solvent system. It includes a good solvent, a poor solvent and a bridging liquid. The selection of solvents depends on miscibility of the solvents and the solubility of drug in individual solvents. Accordingly acetone, water and chloroform are selected as a good solvent, poor solvent and bridging liquid. Chloroform has shown to be highly used in the preparation of spherical crystals. Hence this solvent system is used in the present study. Agglomerates were prepared by agitating the crystals in a liquid suspension and adding a bridging liquid, which wets the crystal surface causing binding. The addition of bridging liquid promotes the formation of liquid bridges between drug crystals. Spherical agglomerates of three different polymers (PVP, Poloxamer and Crosspovidone) and physical mixtures were prepared dried at room temperature. Particle size, saturation solubility, drug content, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) studies and dissolution characteristics were also investigated.
Secondary Metabolite screening, Bioactive compound extraction, and Disrupting Mitotic Activity of Wild Cabbage [Brassicaceae] towards Cancer Management
Authors: A. Thenmozhi, Dr. U.S Mahadeva Rao
Abstract
Objective: The present study has been formulated with an objective to establish the preliminary phytochemical analysis and antimitotic activity of Brassica oleracea. Method: Brassica oleracea was collected, homogenized and extracted with different solvents. Antimitotic activity of Brassica oleracea was evaluated using the meristamatic cells from the root of Allium cepa. Experiments were carried out with incorporation of folic acid in the extract. Results: The preliminary study revealed the presence of flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, saponins, polyphenols and glycosides. Folic acid inhibited the antimitotic activity of Brassica oleracea extract. The antimitotic activity obtained was compared with methotrexate-a referred anticancer drug. Discussion: The results obtained from the present study pinpoint that antimitotic activity of Brassica oleracea may be due to the presence of flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, polyphenols and saponins. Conclusion: Hence Brassica oleracea is a promising source of phytochemicals which promote human health by strengthening the human immune system, inactivate cancer-causing substances, protect the heart and eyes from disease, boost enzyme activity to increase the benefits of the various protective enzymes, reduce bad cholesterol levels, and anti-aging.
Citation Analysis of References appended in Doctoral Theses In Library & Information Science Submitted to Shodhganga by Guahati University
Author: Parismita Bora
Abstract
Citation analysis is one of the popular techniques of bibliometric study that aids scholars in the identification of core journals in their respective domain. The present study is based on 2671 citations used in the 21 doctoral theses of the library and information science department of Guwahati University(GU) that are deposited to Shodhganga from 2016 to 2020. The purpose of this study is to determined the most favoured information source, authorship pattern, year-wise distribution of citations as well as to prepare a ranking list of core Journals in library and information science based on citation frequency of that journal. Data were gathered and analyzed based on pre-determined criteria. Finally, conclusion has been drawn from the data analyzed.

Abstract
Controlled release (CR) dosage forms have been extensively used to improve therapy with several important drugs. The recent developments of floating drug delivery systems (FDDS) including the physiological and formulation variables affecting gastric retention, approaches to design single-unit and multiple-unit floating systems, and their classification and formulation aspects are covered in detail. This review also summarizes the in vitro techniques, in vivo studies to evaluate the performance and application of floating systems. Floating dosage form can be prepared as tablets, capsules by adding suitable ingredients as well as by adding gas generating agent. In this review various techniques used in floating dosage forms along with current & recent developments of stomach specific floating drug delivery system for gastro retention are discussed.
